Houses of Parliament, Asugard Lewellyn Jenkins could scarcely believe that he had been elevated to the leadership of the Hardenburghian Social Democratic Party. Like all institutions in Hardenburgh, the SDP had a rigid hierarchy and hitherto, it was thought impossible that a backbench working class MP from an industrial seat in Cumbria could break through to the leadership. His accession was soon widely accepted. Indeed, his aggressive leadership had reinvigorated what observers believed to be a dying party. Unlike his predecessors, he had viciously attacked the government, ensuring that criticism of its failed foreign policy was widespread. The Federative invasion of Aegeania had turned the tables decisively. A key ally of the United Kingdom had been overrun by Federative forces whilst Hardenburgh stood idly by. The government’s failure to defend the final democracy in southeastern Valoria had angered numerous Conservative and Social Democratic MPs alike. Harnessing this popular discontent, Jenkins had been able to force Parliament to hold a vote of no confidence against the government. As he stood at the dispatch box; amidst the opulent surrounds of the Common’s Chamber, he felt the eyes of all who sat within fixated upon him. After taking a deep breath, he began his oration. "Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to move that this house has no confidence in Her Majesty’s Government.” A loud cheer arose from the Conservative and Social Democratic back benches. It seemed strange that so many on the government benches were engaging in a flagrant act of rebellion against their own Prime Minister. However, perhaps they hoped that the general election, which would inevitably ensue following a vote of no confidence, would provide them with an opportunity to clear the decks and install a new and credible government. “The timing of the motion, Mr. Speaker, arises from the government’s inept handling of the recent events which have swept Valoria. When we, in Her Majesty’s Opposition, thought that it was time for decision and action, the Prime Minister thought it was time for indecision and inaction.” “Hear! Hear!” Again, a hearty roar rose in support of Jenkin’s attack. From the government benches, a number of MPs should back in opposition. “You bloody hypocrite! Who are you!” The Speaker of the House, who was enthroned in the middle of the floor stood up. “Order! Order! There will be order! The honourable gentleman will be heard! I say, the honourable gentleman will b heard!” Jenkins continued, unabashed. “Three years ago, the Prime Minister was elected to office to serve his third term. Through firebrand rhetoric, he vowed to rise up and meet the Red Peril. He guaranteed the independence of those fragile democracies in Eastern Valoria, an honourable cause no doubt! However, actions speak louder than words. Through his needlessly aggressive foreign policy, which actively sought confrontation with the Federative Union, the Prime Minister tore up the foundations of peace and stability which hitherto secured peace in our time. Novgorod responded in kind.” One of the Conservative backbenchers stood up! “Lies and slander! The honourable gentleman and his excuse for a party would sell us out to the Federatives!” The speaker retired quickly. “The member for Lithingham will be seated!” “Out of the bowels of that despicable Empire, armoured legions poured forth into Zubrowka. In that, one of the bleakest hours this generation has known, what did the Prime Minister do? To answer that question with ‘nothing’ would dignify the farcical and incoherent response of the government. No doubt, it abated and facilitated the Zubrowka’s speedy reintegration into the Federative Union. Unjustly, the Honourable Gentleman was able to absolve himself of blame for this calamity. This was not the case with Aegeania. Little Aegeania, brave Aegeania, that valiant ally of the Empire-Commonwealth. When Federative armies massed on the Aegeanian frontier, the Prime Minister stood by and allowed that final beacon of democracy, liberty and freedom in Eastern Valoria to be vanquished.” This latter remark provoked a chorus of cheers from the opposition and government back benches alike. Jenkins glanced at the Prime Minister who, for the first time in his thirteen years as Premier looked nervous. A man who so readily exude control and authority now seemed shrunk and nervous. His own party was in rebellion. This was clear. “Mr. Speaker, the irresponsible and reckless actions of the Prime Minister and his cabinet have diminished the honour and prestige of the United Kingdomm and its Empire-Commonwealth. Moreover, the government has reneged upon the cornerstone of its platform. The prevailing situation in Valoria, to which I speak with reference, is bleak. The evil machinations of those villainous despots in Novgorod have finally been realised- in no small part, thanks to the complete collapse of Hardenburghian foreign policy.” Yet another intervention, this time from an Aurish MP in the government benches. “Mr Speaker, the honourable gentleman is a hypocrite! I seem to remember that it was his party which proposed complete non-interventionism!” The speaker cautioned him once again. “Western Valoria, civilisation’s final frontier, now faces a cohesive, truculent and heinous threat entirely and wholly committed to its utter and complete annihilation. This, Mr. Speaker, is the Prime Minister’s legacy.” Jenkins returned to his seat amidst rapturous cries of approval. Urquhart watched as his opponent took his seat. Members of the shadow cabinet slapped him on the back, and those in the benches above his leaned over to shake his hand. The government’s record was difficult to defend; indeed Hardenburghian foreign policy had been addled by numerous crises well beyond the government’s remit of control. Nevertheless, he stood at the dispatch box and addressed the assembly in a commanding tone. “Mr. Speaker, I’d like to note my surprise at the fighting rhetoric of the honourable gentleman. I am quite surprised that he proposes this government take a stronger stance against Federative aggression when three simple words surmise the foreign and defence policies of his party: withdrawal, retreat, surrender.” A murmur of approval rose from government benches. Enthused, Urquhart paused briefly before continuing his attack. “This government is not naive to the difficult situation which this nation and its Empire-Commonwealth has faced throughout the past few years. The difficulties which this government has faced in effectively tackling a resurgent Federative threat have been multiplied tenfold on account of the misdeeds of the Helvanic government in Western Valoria. The honourable gentleman speaks of this government’s legacy. That, I will tell him, is a brave defence of freedom and liberty in Western Valoria. However, this must be tempered with the essential interests of the Hardenburghian people. The honourable gentleman’s ignorance to this overriding priority can only be attributed to his party’s complete lack of experience in government-“ Suddenly Urquhart was interrupted by a Social Democratic MP Stephen Wilkes- a well known rebel. “Tell that to the people of Zubrowka and Aegeania! The Prime Minister’s total indifference to their plight is the great betrayal!” The speaker censured the interruption before indicating that the Prime Minister should continue. “Oh yes, Mr. Speaker, it is ever so easy to sit on the sidelines and provide a running commentary when assuming the immense responsibility of government is the farthest thought from one’s mind. There may have been shortcomings in this government’s foreign policy- however, we should cast our minds back to the grievous state of Imperial Defence this government inherited when it took the reigns from its predecessor in 2003-“ Yet another interruption! This time from a Conservative, James Buchanan. “Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister is skirting around the central question here- his failure to defend the democracies of Eastern Valoria!” The speaker stood up. “Order! The honourable gentleman will remain quiet and reserve his commentary for when the debate is opened to the floor!” “Mr Speaker, I am right in saying that a stronger, more united Empire Commonwealth exists which is better to meet the Federative threat” Buchanan interrupted again! “Mr. Speaker, it’s hardly done that though! Look at the mess the honourable gentleman’s government has created. Mr. Prime Minister, you must resign. It’s the only honourable course” The speaker looked directly at Buchanan. “The member for Montgomeryshire will reserve his commentary for when the Prime Minister finishes speaking. This is his final warning. If I have to censure him again, he will be excluded from this house!” “Moreover,” Urquhart continued, “I should like to point out that the Honourable Gentleman’s party consistently refused to lend any support to this government’s policy of providing extensive aid to the Aegeanian government. Indeed, the honourable gentleman stood at the dispatch box and censured this government for over-involvement in a “Southern Valorian issue”, I quote. It surprises me that he has the gall to stand here now and falsely accuse this government of adopting and then criticising, the very policy which he and his party proposed!” Urquhart was hardly relieved to return to his bench and the debate passed to the floor. Urquhart grimaced. Now he’d have to face the anger of his own party. The first MP to intervene, however, Sir Percival Bligh, provided stirring message of support. “Mr. Speaker, I was wondering me if the Prime Minister would join me in utter and unreserved condemnation of the opposition’s hypocrisy. Pacifist pinkos have transformed, overnight, into warmongers. Mr. Speaker, when the honourable gentleman took place as leader of the opposition, he vowed to put the national interest before party-political interest. Mr. Speaker, the honourable gentleman’s underlying motivations are barefaced and shameless. Does the Prime Minister agree that it is he who should resign!” Standing up behind the dispatch box, Urquhart smiled coyly “Mr Speaker, I can only say this to the honourable gentleman. He may very well think that… I couldn’t possibly comment!” Peter Hughes, a disgraced ex-minster who had his eyes on the leadership stood up and addressed Parliament. “Mr. Speaker, it is very apt that my honourable friend spoke of the national interest. I am indeed a Conservative MP, but first and foremost I am a patriot. My allegiance to the queen, the empire and the nation are paramount and supreme. I have looked upon this government’s conduct in muted horror and it is right that I should speak my mind. In a destructive and self-interested drive for survival this government has thrown national prestige and national honour by the wayside. It is why I must call upon the Prime Minister resign immediately, but before doing so beseech Her Majesty to dissolve Parliament in preparation for a general election. This shameful and destructive course is not worthy of Hardenburgh’s name!” Urquhart smiled coyly, such bare faced political opportunism would not go unnoticed! “Mr. Speaker, the honourable gentleman’s words are brave and noble, but I must question his underlying intentions. Did he not, but a few months ago, call for calm and restraint in this house? I fear that raw ambition may underly his words- not the national interest as he doth profess!” However it was the comments of his recently resigned foreign minister that drove home the severity of the crisis. “Mr. Speaker, the crisis we now face is a moral crisis as much as it is a political or international one. Those institutions and structures, tasked with defending that which we cherish have failed utterly. Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister has left the nation broken and bruised. The only way we can regain our honour is through the immediate dissolution of Parliament and a general election. It is why I shall support this vote!” |

Asguard, Hardenburgh- After weeks of uncertainty, following the resignation of Lewellyn Jenkins, a new government lead by Lord Salisbury has taken office. The new government was formed after the Tory Coalition and breakaway Democratic Party reached agreement with one another last night. Revelations recently published in the Hardenburghian Times detailed how the Federative Union had secretly funded the SDP, destroying Mr. Jenkins’ short-lived government. The political fallout resulted in the arrest of thirty MPs; the defection of another 110 MPs meaning that the government no longer commanded a majority in the House of Commons. Mr. Jenkins resigned on the 7th of January citing these reasons as the motivation behind his decision. The cabinet which Lord Salisbury is in the process of appointing is evenly balanced between the Democratic Party and Tory Coalition. Former Prime Minister Sir Francis Urquhart is set to make a return as Chancellor of the Exchequer whilst Thomas Pellerau, a prominent Democratic Party MP has been appointed Foreign Secretary. In what has been widely interpreted as a conciliatory move to Social Democratic Party supporters, the leftwing MP Harry Barnstable has been appointed as Minister of Labour. Markets responded positively to the installation of a new government, with the Kroner closing 2.5% up. Reaction to the new government has been broadly positive. An editorial in the Ceroulian newspaper the El Diario, widely perceived to be a mouthpiece of the Borjes government, “applauded Lord Salisbury as well as the Hardenburghian Tory and Democratic Parties from pulling the country back from a leftist brink.” It claimed that “Now, more than ever before a strong Hardo-Ceroulian partnership was needed to stabilise the world. The United Kingdom is back in the business of global leadership.” In a televised press conference, the Helvan Chancellor congratulated Lord Salisbury for his appointment to the premiership and expressed his desire that the two countries could continue to improve bilateral relations develop a strategic partnership. Preliminary opinion polling within the United Kingdom shows widespread support from the government, however there has been notable criticism from the ranks of the Social Democratic Party with the newly-elected leader Sir Howard McDonald criticising the party’s lack of representation within the national government “despite the result of the recent election, which gave the SDP a clear mandate to govern the United Kingdom.” The left wing of the SDP and Unions have been more vocal in their criticism. Pointing to the unexplained disappearance of former foreign minister John McLaird and the absence of ex-Prime Minister Lewellyn Jenkins, Derek Simpson, leader of the Transport and General Workers Union, (one of the largest in Hardenburgh) claimed foul play on the part of the state. The new Prime Minister has not spoken to the Press as yet, but before entering Wilmthrop Street this evening gave a brief statement on the steps of the prime minister’s official residence. Stating that the aim of his government was to “restore stability and certainty to the United Kingdom, Empire-Commonwealth and world at large”. Further to these comments, Lord Salisbury explicitly stated that the new government would not follow through with the controversial military withdrawal from Valoria proposed by the Perkins Ministry. In a statement, likely intended to reassure the United Kingdom’s continental partners following the recent uncertainty, the Ministry of Defence announced that an additional two armoured division would be deployed to Valoria by the end of 2017, strengthening the Hardenburghian Army in Valoria significantly. Further updates will follow in due course. MORE IN TOP STORIES

The Night of the Long Knives ”By the power invested in this document, the Veldenz Constitution of 1964, we grant the Armed and Paramilitary Forces the charge of State Protection. If the Fatherland and the Reich are in peril due to domestic decadence and the degradation of the Reich’s values and principles. The Armed Forces, the Waffen SS and the other paramilitary services have the undying responsibility to commit to a coup d’etat against the domestic political enemies of the state.” --Article X of the Reich Constitution of 1964, Written and Drafted in Veldenz 1963, Ratified in Königsberg-Teutlin “We are the Waffen SS and Garden SS, on our belts is inscribed our motto: MEINE EHRE HEIßt TREUE! We will defend our Fatherland from the enemies of our state, whether domestic or foreign!” --Reichskommandant der Waffen-SS Rudi Dietrich, on the eve of the 1. June Putsch Garden of Heroes (Die Helden Garten); Headquarters of the Waffen SS (Hauptquartier der Waffen-SS); Landsfelde, Reich Region of Prutonia; Helvan National Socialist Republic 13 January 2016 - 1131 Hours Two of the most powerful men in the Helvanic Reich sat side by side on a stone bench. Sitting beneath the winter sun, they stared stoically at the Statue of Rudi Dietrich before them. Surrounding them were the large structures that formed the Headquarters itself. The two men sat in a dark silence. Reichskommandant der Waffen-SS Anders Nygaard and Reichskommandant der Nationalgarde-SS Ansel Nygaard, the head of the Armed branch of the SS and the Head of the Political Guard respectively, wielded a great deal of power within the Helvanic Reich’s complex political system, each powerful enough to dispose the enemies of the State. As they were silently taking in the scenery, always returning their gazes upon Dietrich’s statue, Anders spoke up to his brother, “Ansel, about 55 years ago my predecessor faced a difficult decision, set forth into motion the Reich’s future and gave us the Constitution. Soon, I too, will commit to that decision. However, I will suspend the Constitution until a time the soon-to-be new Government deems otherwise.” Ansel nodded. Anders continued: “I have alarming reports from the Waffen-SS Intelligence Department of ONI, that the Führer has again made a controversial decision. He has made an agreement with our enemies abroad, as he has done with Communist International. If the Reich is to fight we must do it against the evils of Judeo-Capitalism and Judeo-Bolshevism. And likely we will perish.” “It is our sacred duty to the Reich, to defend her unto death, brother,” responded Ansel. “If the Führer is betraying us, the ideals and principles of the Reich, or is degrading our Fatherland… We have the sacred Charge of National Protection to destroy the Regime.” “Indeed, Ansel,” Anders smiled, knowing his brother’s support would bring glory to the Reich. Anders stated, “Well, the Armed Forces is on board with this as is the other Paramilitary forces. Not the Einsatzgruppen, no doubt and some of the RSHA.” “We will eventually liquidate them, Anders,” smiled Ansel as he mentioned this. Both brothers broke out into wide grins. Soon, Anders turned to his younger brother and asked, “How’s mom and dad?” “They are well. As is Ingrid.” “Thank God. Well brother, it is time to prepare,” Anders finished. “Farvel bror!” “Faktisk farvel til deg også,” Ansel smiled as he got up. The two parted. Führer’s Palace; 16 km north of Königsberg-Teutlin; Helvan National Socialist Republic; 14 January 2016 - 1347 Hours ".....I.....I repeat....repeat....this is not a drill....not a drill....repeat...not a drill..." "Mein Führer! Sir!......" Screamed a man from somewhere in the chaotic environment that Stranzky now found himself in. The deafening sounds of the siren blasting through his ear drums, the eerie red light flashing through the smoke, causing him to regain his consciousness, and look at his surroundings. "...What....what the hell just happened?" Stranzky attempted to place his hands underneath him, but in vain. His arms crumbled beneath his weight, and he fell to the ground. "Shit..." Quickly, he attempted this task again. He positioned his hands beneath his body, moving himself up from the debris covered floor of the room he was once walking through. His hands almost collapsed again, so he decided to lean against the wall, the only wall that was still standing, it had a few chunks missing here and there, caused by the blast, but it would have to do. The large speaker in the corner that had once been broadcasting messages of warnings, and alerting everyone in the building that it was not a drill, was quiet except for the constant wave of static that broke through. The speaker itself was hanging on by a slim wire. As it dangled from the ceiling, Stranzky remembered the voice he had heard earlier. Still half-unconscious, he could barely speak after the sudden shock hit him, though he attempted anyway. "He...hello?" He spoke softly, and drearily, listening for a voice to reply to his question, but nothing came up. He shut his eyes tightly, then opened them back up. "Ahh! Fuck!" The bright light from outside flooded into his eye sockets, burning and causing tears to run down his face, his eyes were completely bloodshot. He could feel his voice coming back, "Hello? Hello?!" He heard nothing, nothing but the silent breeze of the air outside. He put his hands on the wall, feeling around, then he heard something. It sounded like footsteps, but he figured it was just a piece of debris falling to the ground. Then the sound got louder, "Who's there?" Nothing. "Who's there?! This is the Führer of the Helvanic Reich, I order you to speak!" Five men dressed in the Nationalgarden-SS’s less known urban camouflage uniform appeared in the corner of the room, stepping over the dust, debris, and the occasional body. One of them in hard, rugged voice said; "Führer Kurt Stranzky, by order of the Armed and Paramilitary Forces inciting Article X of the Reich Constitution of 1964, you are hereby under Arrest. The charges are sedition, aiding the enemy, the bringing of degradation of Reich morals and values. Further charges are collaborating with the External Enemies of the State." "I am the Führer and you are the Nationalgarden-SS, you are supposed to defend me from those cowards!” The Nationalgarden-SS soldier turned to his comrade, “Take him away. If he tries anything shoot him. Verstanden?" The four others nodded. Stranzky was shocked, and amazed. He didn't know what to do, but his instincts kicked in and his hand went to his side. Quickly he pulled out his pistol, whipping it around and shot them. That was his plan, at least. As soon as he whipped the weapon around he was kicked in the face, the large boot breaking his jaw. As he was about to sit back up, he met the butt of a gun, instantly knocking him out cold. Outside the Führer’s Palace; Führerschutzgruppe #1 and #2; 16 km north of Königsberg-Teutlin; Helvan National Socialist Republic; 14 January 2016 - 1407 Hours[/u] "Contact Right! We've got armed men inside the perimeter!" screamed Führerschutzmann Dietrich Veiel as opened up on from the Palace once proud, now ruined structure. He gripped the cold handle of his STG-89, dropping the empty mag and replacing it with a full one. "I need support fire!" As he finished screaming the sound of rotors streamed through his ears. He quickly turned around, and spotted the multiple Army Helicopters hovering over the Führerspalast. He then heard the wonderful sounds of boots slapping the pavement, "Ahh...the Regular Army. Wonderful." He kept on staring at the soldiers exiting the helicopters. For some reason, these men were simply wearing dark gray tunics, dark gray pants, and black kevlar vests with a black armband which had a red spector-looking hydra symbol. "Hmm...that's strange." He slapped the guy next to him on the arm. "They aren't wearing their proper uniforms. They've got no camouflage on." They were all wearing the same uniform, so they seemed to be organized; "They could be some new special operations group that we've never heard of," said the soldier next to him. "Yeah, they could be. But we're pretty important, why wouldn't they tell us?" He kept staring, oblivious to the continuing gunfight around them. Some of them wore helmets, some wore hats, others wore nothing on their heads. Completely massive beards rested on their chins. "...What...what if it's the Gespenst?" He asked in despair. "What?! No, the government wouldn't let Jager Company roam around near the Fuhrer’s Palace! They couldn't be that stupid....could they?" "Of course they wouldn't be that stupid...it doesn't matter anyway, as long as they're on our side." Suddenly a grenade blast went off near his cover, and he was brought back to reality. "Shit...let's get back to-" Before he could finish his sentence his friend was shot in the back. His blood splattered all over the wall they had been kneeling behind. "FUCK!" He looked at his friend’s body slip down to the ground, then multiple bullets hit the wall, all around him, making him dance. "FUCK!" He turned around and looked at the 'special forces' guys that had jumped out of the choppers. "FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!" The men in the dark gray uniforms were the ones firing at them! He knelt back down behind his cover. He quickly touched his mic, "Thunder, this is Echo-Charlie. We've got tangos on both sides, under heavy fire. Request fire support. Danger close. Over." Static. "Thunder, this is Echo-Charlie. Do you read me? Over." "Thunder, do you read me? I repeat, this is Echo-Charlie. Requesting fire support, danger close. Over." "Is anyone there? Over." "Dammit! Fucking static, it's always fucking stat-" The blood splattered onto the wall behind him, large chunks stuck to the wall, then smoothly slid down to the floor, the floor that had been flooded with empty shells from his weapon. They were now blood stained, the blood dripping from the hole in his head. He had been shot, directly in the forehead. He was shot by the men who fascinated him the most, the men in dark gray. The dark angels, Die Hydra Gespenst. |

"Tá Gráinne Mhaol ag teacht thar sáile óglaigh armtha léi mar gharda, Gaeil iad féin is ní Macaigh ná Hallevaigh 's cuirfidh siad ruaig ar Ghallaibh!" "Gráinne Mhaol is coming over the sea, Armed warriors as her guard, They are Gaels, not Macean nor Hallevese... and they will rout the foreigners!" ~ "Oró Sé Do Bheatha 'Bhaile," famous Hibernian revolutionary song Royal Hibernian Constabulary, Neeson Square Kilkenny, Hibernia, United Kingdom 2 February, 2016 5:30pm News had traveled quickly through the volatile suburbs of Kilkenny. Deep-seated tensions between the city's religiously Catholic and politically socialist underclass and the pro-Hardenburghian Protestant elite had reached a boiling point over the past month—the realm-wide crackdown on anyone and anything social democrat and the dismantling of venerable trade unions had ended what little complacency millions of disaffected Hibernians had for Hardenburgian rule. Daily clashes between impassioned demonstrators and the police, backed by the Hardenburghian Army, had become commonplace across the country. Rumors of foreign involvement in the increasingly violent demonstrations gave rise to concerns that a second Hibernian revolution was just over the horizon. The accidental killing of a 10-year old boy by an anxious Hardenburgian army reservist couldn't have come at a worse time... Inspector Michael Doherty peered out onto the chaotic scene unfolding before him. Neeson Square, typically empty at this time of the evening, was now overflowing with what appeared to be half the city's population. Men, women, and children of all ages hurled insults and stones at the wall of riot police officers that stood in front of the Constabulary building. Their indifferent response seemed to only enrage the demonstrators further. Meanwhile, reports of widespread arson and vandalism continued to trickle in from all over Kilkenny. If that wasn't enough, the chief inspector had gone missing. All attempts to contact or find him had failed, leaving Doherty effectively in charge of the overstretched Constabulary. Doherty tapped his foot nervously and let out an irritable sigh. He spun around to face his younger sergeant. "...and the lad?" "Er...the chief medical examiner hasn't completed—" "Not that lad for fook's sake, the Hardie lad! In Christ's fookin name... "My apologies Inspector! We're keeping him in one of the cells until the MPs come to take him." "Good, keep that bloody idiot where he is, I don't want—" An anxious constable appeared in the doorway. "Well don't just fookin stand there, spit it out lad!" "Sir, the—" Doherty cut him off. "If it's the bloody press tell them to fook off back to—" "No Inspector, its the Chief Superintendent on line one." "Shite, both of you fook off." The two men hurriedly left the room as Doherty sunk into his chair, clearing his throat as he picked up the phone. "Chief Superintendent Sir, it's—" "WHAT IN CHRIST'S BLOODY FOOKIN NAME IS GOING ON DOWN THERE, DOHERTY!?!" Doherty had to pull the phone away from his ear. "Sir, I'm afraid we're losing control of—" "I CAN BLOODY WELL SEE THAT, JESUS FOOKIN CHRIST." Doherty could hear the superintendent fuming over the line. He waited several moments before speaking. "Sir, we—" "DOHERTY YOU LISTEN HERE. BY THE POWER INVESTED IN ME YADA YADA YOU ARE NOW ACTING CHIEF INSPECTOR. YOU WILL BE RECIEVING REINFORCEMENTS WITHIN THE HOUR—THE SITUATION IS SPREADING AND ALL MY CONSTABULARYS ARE OVERSTRETCHED WITH THEIR OWN RIOTS SO YOU'LL BE GETTING IT FROM AND THE HARDIES." "Sir, I don't believe Hardenburghian troops would be—" "I DON'T GIVE A FLYIN FOOK WHAT YOU BELIEVE DOHERTY, THIS COMES DOWN FROM THE CHIEF CONSTABLE. WE'LL BE IN TOUCH." The superintendent had hung up. Doherty sighed angrily before ripping the phone from his desk and throwing it across the room. He stood and reached for the bottle of whiskey he had stashed in a drawer. Gazing out the window on to the chaos, he took a swig. "It's going to be a long fookin night." 6:30pm Doherty strode out into the frigid winter night in full riot gear. The cold had done nothing to cool the tempers of the thousands of impassioned demonstrators packed into the square. Orders being issued through megaphones were drowned out by angry shouts and gaelic chants. Doherty could hardly hear himself think. He walked down the building's stone steps, ducking as a stone flew past his head. His exhausted men, all boys really, nodded anxiously to him as he marched past like an Antean general. He found his sergeant speaking over a radio. He glanced up, acknowledging his presence with a wink. "Copy that, 201 out. Inspector Sir, the Hardie MRF has arrived." Doherty glanced towards the far end of the Constabulary. A motorcade of troop transports had entered the square, protected against the crowd by a line of police. The trucks pulled up to Doherty's position and offloaded dozens of heavily armed soldiers who began to take positions in front of the police line, aiming their rifles into the crowed. A tall mustachioed man, obviously the commanding officer, approached Doherty. "Are you the one in charge here?" He barked. "Aye." Doherty replied. "Acting Chief Inspector Michael Doherty at yer service." "Captain Johnathan Randal, Military Reaction Force. I am taking charge of the situation. Have your officers pull back." Doherty must have looked stunned. The Hardenburghian captain certainly thought so. "NOW Inspector!" Doherty shot the captain an angry glance before ripping the radio from his sergeant's hand. "Everyone pull back. The Hardies are gonna do our work for us." The hesitation in the ranks was evident. "EVERYONE PULL BACK NOW." Doherty bellowed. 6:45pm "Don't you fookin move girl. Keep it under your seat." Sháuna felt as if her heart was going to tear itself from her chest. She couldn't comprehend how her uncle remained so calm. They both stared intently at the scene unfolding before them. The car carrying her three brothers had just been stopped outside the entrance of the square by four constables. It appeared that a tense conversation was taking place between one of the officers and her brothers, whilst the other two paced the length of the car as if they were looking for something. With a shaky hand, Sháuna gripped her gun tightly. Suddenly one of the officers near the rear of the car began to shout. Without warning, a shot rang out from inside the car, killing one of the officer instantly. Her brothers emerged from the car and quickly gunned down the other three. They returned to the car which peeled out and sped towards the square. Her uncle swore under his breath and followed them. Sháuna had one hand to her mouth and another still gripping the gun. "Christ alive. A fookin child shouldn't have had to see that. Ciach ort" Sháuna was in a state of shock, still processing what had just transpired as the car became surrounded by a horde of demonstrators. They could go no further. "Wait here, don't open the door until I get back. If anyone tries to force their way in..." He pointed at the gun in her hand. Sháuna could only nod. Her uncle slammed the door, locking it behind him. She watched as he swiftly joined her brothers. A fierce argument began to take place between them. After a few moments one of her brothers opened the trunk, removing several automatic rifles which they then quickly hid in their coats. One by one her brothers hugged their uncle and quickly disappeared into the crowd. Her uncle returned to the car, whispering the Lord's Prayer under his breath as he began to tinker with something under his seat. He looked up at Sháuna." "Hide that gun in your coat. We're going to walk from here. Your brothers will join us later." Sháuna nodded and got out of the car. She grabbed on to her uncle's hand as the two tried to squeeze their way through the crowed, back the way they came. "Keep looking at me girl, whatever you hear, just keep walking." 7:00pm "STAY BACK, OR YOU WILL BE FIRED UPON!" The Hardenburghian captain was now screaming through a megaphone into the crowd. His orders went ignored as demonstrators hurled bricks and rubish at the row of Hardenburghian soldiers, who were not equipped with riot gear. The soldiers continued to train their guns on the crowd, screaming orders of their own at the demonstrators. Doherty felt utterly helpless as he watched from the incident command post. One of the captain's subordinates ran to him with a radio. A look of relief crossed the captain's face as he held the receiver to his ear. He picked up the megaphone again, this time directing it at his troops. "Listen up lads, we're going to retake the square. Gas the fuckers!" In an instant, a half-dozen canisters of tear gas were fired into the crowd. People screamed and began to panic as the suffocating white clouds overcame them. A number of braver demonstrators whilst holding garments to their faces weathered the assault and continued to hurl bricks. They were quickly subdued by rubber bullets. Nevertheless, the sure size of the crowd, now seemingly emboldened by this latest act of Hardenburghian aggression, would not be dispersed by tear gas and rubber bullets alone. As Doherty watched intently, he felt something whiz past his ear. He turned around to find his sergeant on the ground dead, with a gunshot wound to his head. More shots rang out from the crowd and several soldiers fell to the ground. Without warning, a storm of automatic gunfire erupted from the Hardenburghian soldiers into the crowd. Scores of bodies began to fall, whilst a stampede of hundreds of people attempting to flee began to form. "HOLD YOUR FIRE!" the Hardenburghian captain bellowed from the megaphone. His order went unanswered by his troops who continued to fire into the panicking crowd. Doherty yelled for his men to retreat into the Constabulary and to attend to the wounded there. As he began to ascend the front steps, two deafening booms from the far end of the square knocked him to the ground. A torrent of debris and body parts rained down on him as he weakly pulled himself to his feet. He brought his hands from his ringing ears and found them to be covered in blood. Peering through the dust, the far end of the square was ablaze; it was a scene of unimaginable carnage. A sharp pain suddenly overtook Doherty. Looking down, he could see dark blood oozing from a hole in his kevlar vest. He was dead before he hit the ground. Edited by Federative Union, Sep 13 2016, 10:51 PM.
